Carcassone France

July 23, 2013.

Yesterday we stayed at the resort Rita found for us in Cap d’Agde.  It is the Palmyra Golf Resort.  Of course, it is on a Golf Course and I don’t play golf, but It is the nicest place we could find in this small village on the Mediterranean Sea in the South of France.  We spent, from the time we woke up until 3:00 PM, catching up on personal maintenance items meaning pictures, blogs, expenses, etc.  Then, we took a break and laid out in the sun by the pool for two hours.  Last night, we went to the port for dinner. We have had great seafood meals of fresh fish, oysters, and shrimp.  The wine has been excellent also.

Today we are driving to Carcassone France to see a medieval village.  The drive is about an hour.  Carcassone has a fort from the fifth century although the history of the city goes back to 3500 BC.  From Carcassone we will drive two hours to Lourdes.  Lourdes is where Our Lady of Lourdes is located.  Apparently the Lady of Lourdes appeared some 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858.  The Lady of Lourdes is believed to be the Virgin Mary.  I believe Lourdes is the number one tourist site in France drawing some 40,000 visitors a day or 6 million visitors a year.  It should be interesting.  More later. We are spending the night in Lourdes.

Tomorrow we are driving through the wine country of Bordeaux which is famous for its great red wines.  We hope to spend the night in St. Emillion, a center for red wine production and of course tasting red wine.  We hope to sample our share of red wine.  Currently Rita is a white wine drinker only, but I hope to convert her to a red wine drinker or at least a red wine drinker on occasion.

Love Norm & Rita.

Had to get Betsy a wash. She was looking quite filthy by this time. The car wash moves around the car while it is parked. We had to get out, couldn't stay inside.

Here is Betsy getting us lost. Not really, we think it was just a new round a bout.

The storm came out of nowhere, we cut our visit short. Good thing we had finished our lunch.
